Titanium heart keeps patients alive for over 100 days

Around 23 million people worldwide are waiting for a donor heart. Research offers hope: in Australia, a man received an artificial heart made of titanium that kept him alive for more than100 days until a donor heart became available. In the future, artificial hearts could replace transplants.

UK emissions fall to lowest level since 1872

According to a new analysis by Carbon Brief, the UK's emissions fell to 409 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2024 – the lowest level since 1872. The decline is primarily largely due to the closure of the country's last coal-fired power stations.
